FAQ

Installation & Materials

The difference comes down to water capacity. Standard 5-inch gutters are sufficient for most average-sized homes. However, 6-inch gutters can hold nearly 40% more water. We often recommend 6-inch systems for homes with steep roof pitches, large surface areas, or for homeowners looking for extra protection during heavy torrential downpouts.

Store-bought gutters come in sections that must be glued or snapped together. Every seam is a potential leak point and a weak spot that can buckle under heavy snow or ice. Our seamless gutters are custom-fabricated on-site from a single continuous piece of heavy-gauge aluminum, ensuring a perfect fit and a much longer lifespan.

Yes! We specialize in custom copper gutter work, which offers a stunning aesthetic and incredible durability. We also install half-round and box-style gutters for historic or modern homes that require a specific architectural look.

This is very common. During the removal of your old system, we inspect the fascia board (the wood the gutter attaches to). If we find rot or damage, we will bring it to your attention immediately. Our team can replace the damaged fascia with new wood or PVC composite before installing the new gutters to ensure a secure hold.

Absolutely. We carry a wide variety of colors. When we come for your estimate, we bring color chips to match your new gutters to your siding, trim, or roof, ensuring they blend in or stand out exactly as you want them to.

Maintenance, Cleaning & Guards

For most homes on Long Island, we recommend cleaning twice a year: once in late spring (after pollen and seeds fall) and once in late fall (after the leaves have dropped). If your home is surrounded by pine trees, you may need 3-4 cleanings a year as pine needles accumulate quickly.

High-quality guards are a great investment. While no system is 100% "maintenance-free" forever, our leaf protection screens drastically reduce the need for cleaning. They prevent heavy clogs from wet leaves and nests, keeping water flowing freely and protecting your home from overflow damage.

Gutters themselves do not cause ice dams—insulation and ventilation issues in the attic do. However, clogged or improperly pitched gutters can make ice dams much worse by trapping water at the roof's edge. Our systems ensure water evacuates quickly before it has a chance to freeze.

Logistics, Scheduling & Warranty

For the estimate, it is helpful if you are home so we can discuss your specific needs, but we can also leave a quote if we have full access to the exterior. For installation, you generally do not need to be home as long as we have access to power and the driveway is clear.

Most residential jobs are completed in one day. We arrive with our mobile fabrication workshop, remove the old gutters, prep the fascia, fabricate the new system, and install it all in a single visit. Custom copper work or very large commercial projects may take longer.

We stand behind our craftsmanship. We offer a solid workmanship warranty on all installations to ensure the system does not detach or leak due to installation error. Additionally, the materials we use come with their own manufacturer warranties against rusting or paint chipping.

We ask that you move any patio furniture, potted plants, or vehicles away from the perimeter of the house. This gives our crew space to set up ladders safely and ensures no debris falls on your personal items.

Yes, Gutter Goats is fully licensed and insured. We carry General Liability and Workers' Compensation insurance. We are happy to provide proof of insurance upon request for your peace of mind.
